The Star Fort Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) was named for the historic Star Fort located near the town of Ninety Six, South Carolina. The fort was constructed by the British to protect early settlers in the area from the Indians, but it became the site of the first land battle of the Revolutionary War fought south of New England in 1775. Later, General Nathanael Greene and 1,000 patriot troops laid siege to the star-shaped fort. Although unable to dislodge the 550 loyalists defending Star Fort, General Greene is credited with staging the longest siege of the Revolutionary War.
Chapter members have supported Tamassee DAR School with financial contributions, Thrift Store donations, and a constant stream of clipped soup labels. The chapter also sponsors the Fort Charlotte Society Children of the American Revolution.
Members join in projects to collect Bible records and complete listings of cemetery inscriptions in Greenwood County, South Carolina. These projects have been published, with copies donated to the NSDAR Library in Washington, D.C. and the South Carolina State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (SCDAR) library in Camden, South Carolina.
Daughters continue to work to support the objectives of our National Society - patriotic endeavors, historic preservation, and promotion of patriotic education. Contact us if you are interested in receiving a personal invitation to our next meeting.

The DAR gives members an opportunity for service in many areas. It is a way to join with others in trying to make America a better place to live. It offers the opportunity to work with the youth of this country through educational programs. The DAR encourages citizens to become active in the community, to assist in historic preservation, and to help preserve documents and records of the past. It offers an opportunity to meet people with similar interest, develop friendships and to join others who cherish the priceless heritage enjoyed by all while promoting the ideals of patriotism and love of country.
